Social Conformity
31"x19"x13" / Mixed media, Wood Skewers, Thread
The rigid bamboo traps the model inside, allowing no room for flexibility or change or growth.
How?
34"x28"x19" / Mixed Media, Wood Skewers, Thread, Balloons
The juxtaposition between the curvature of the balloons against the rigid form of the skewers represent my refusal to fit into social conformities in my society.
Draped Modesty
42"x30"x28" / Cut Butcher Paper on Mannequin
The more we reveal about ourselves the more vulnerable we become to those around us.
Swirling Byline
51"x37"x30" / Shaped Newspaper
The influence of print and digital imagery has a powerful, ongoing effect on our definition of beauty. By substituting sheets of newspaper for fabric, I wanted to capture the aura of high fashion but use only throwaway materials.
Am I Pretty?
42"x30"x28" / Forks, Silk Screen
The broken forks help highlight how women in society try to fit themselves to social conformities. Although they may have achieved that hour glass figure, their bodies have often experienced irreversible damage for the sake of thinness.
